About me and how i will work with you

I am a Counselling Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK. Additionally to my training in counselling, I have a research doctorate in Psychobiology. I studied the human stress system and specifically how the mind, brain, and body interact. This is why acute and chronic stress along with its associated symptoms and mental health problems such as depression and anxiety is one of my specialist areas.

I am originally from Germany, where I completed most of my Psychology, Counselling and Coaching training. I worked there as a Counselling Psychologist for three years before moving to York in 2013. I recently moved to Dundee, Scotland and am now offering my services from my home in Broughty Ferry, Dundee.

Within my role as a Counselling Psychologist in Germany, I also ran trainings and courses on coping with stress and I continue to offer seminars and workshops on stress management in the UK.

Based on my background, I can also offer my services in German.

SOLUTION-FOCUSED AND RESOURCE-ORIENTED

In both counselling and coaching, I work with you as an individual who has a unique point of view, resources and strengths and who therefore requires unique and individually tailored solutions. We will focus especially on the here and now, as well as the future. Together we will develop solutions according to the changes you want to make. For this, we will draw on your previous and current life experience, knowledge and skills. The approach will always be informed by evidence on what works best for the issues you are experiencing.

 

FLEXIBLE AND TAILORED TO YOU

My support for you is completely tailored to your needs and this is reflected in the way we work together, for example how often we meet. Due to my broad training, my toolbox contains techniques from a range of different evidence-based approaches and I will suggest those to you that I think will work best for your particular situation. The main models I work with are solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and hypnotherapy.

 

COLLABORATIVE

I consider us to be equal partners, with you determining where you want to go and how you want to get there. I consider you to be the expert of your previous life experience, your current situation, and the changes you want to see. My expertise lies in opening up new points of view and a broader perspective on your situation. I will support you along the way and provide you with tools that will help you achieve your desired outcomes. I will also be there to encourage you to take steps forward that may seem daunting at first.

I am responsible for looking out for your best interests and wellbeing. This includes offering an empathic and trustworthy relationship within a safe, confidential, comfortable, and non-judgemental space.
